Why I love Mailchimp (and you should too)
We can all agree that email is the primary method of communication today. The more acceptable it has become, the more we have seen traditional event print pieces (save-the-date cards, for example) phase out.
As event planners, we are tasked with creating quality email pieces for various needs and audiences, but at low to no prices. Enter Mailchimp, a web-based email service that allows users to create and manage campaigns. Our office has been using Mailchimp for more than four years now, and while it may not be perfect, it has certainly helped us tremendously. If you need to create vibrant email campaigns or need to manage messages to large user groups, here’s why you should check it out.
It has progressive pricing
Let’s start with the heart of the matter: the price. We chose to pay a monthly fee based on the number of email subscribers. During event season when we have multiple lists for all of our events (Commencement generates a lot of subscribers!), our fee goes up. In the summer, when we have only a few active lists, our fee goes down. The flexible pricing allows us to save in the slow times so we can spend in our busier times.
Double bonus: If you have fewer than 2,000 subscribers, it’s free!
It’s super easy
When I say easy, I mean easy. No training needed, your grandma can do it, easy. With its latest update, template building is just as simple as making a campaign. Users can drag and drop in pictures and text boxes, then edit them like a word document. You may need some time to adjust to the styles provided and learn the buttons, but you’ll have it memorized after a few campaigns. My favorite feature lets you replicate an older campaign, so I only have to update my body text.
How do you make a problem worse? By not offering good support. It frustrates an already upset customer, and you still have the same problem at the end of the day. Not so with Mailchimp! The online support base provides articles and video instructions that walk you through common issues. Have an uncommon problem? I have had one and their email support was fast, courteous, and solved my problem. A well-supported product is a loved product, and I certainly love Mailchimp. If you have not tried it yet, give it a try and you’ll see why you should love it too.
