This August, the ECN Summer Field Trip Series concluded its successful run with a visit to the Hyatt Atlanta Midtown.
The Hyatt is a former Wyndham hotel. When new management acquired the property in 2011, they began with an extensive renovation of the property. Because people used to refer to the hotel as a “diamond in the rough” due to its perfect location in the middle of Midtown, jewels became a key design theme when they rebuilt. The Hyatt features beautiful light fixtures, pieces of furniture, and pictures that play off the jeweled theme. They also used natural elements in the design to mirror nearby Piedmont Park, visible from most of the guest suites.
What They Have to Offer
The hotel contains 200 rooms including standard king rooms, corner kings (which are bigger with pull-out couches), standard double queen, and extended double queens with a mini-living area. They also have 13 ADA-compliant rooms and a breathtaking presidential suite, available upon request for a small meeting or interview space. The property boasts a delicious restaurant, Fork & Juniper, which offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner options.
Why You Should Consider the Hyatt
Unlike your typical Hyatt, the Atlanta Midtown is a boutique offering that focuses on the business traveler, making it a great option for Georgia Tech guests. It is within reasonable walking distance or a short trolley ride. As a bonus, the hotel is set up with direct billing and a discounted Georgia Tech rate.
For events people, they have two main spaces available in addition to the private dining room. The Avalon room can accommodate 80 in classroom style, 100 in rounds, or other various room setups. It is equipped with two large screens and complimentary Wi-Fi. They offer a discounted rate for Georgia Tech during non-peak times and with smaller needs. The second room is the Atlantis, which is a smaller version of the Avalon room; it can hold about 80 in rounds and 34 in classroom.
