The Faculty & Staff Honors Luncheon recognizes those who have received accolades and awards throughout the previous academic year. A full listing of faculty and staff awards and nomination requirements are below.
Given to faculty authors of an outstanding paper given in the previous calendar year.
Two-page nomination letter, copy of papers, and brief resume
Young Faculty Award
Given to faculty of rank no higher than Assistant Professor or equivalent. Recognizes outstanding research achievements, as evidenced by publications, program development results and other research contributions.

Sustained Research Award
Recognition of sustained research in a given area.
Outstanding Achievement in Research Enterprise Enhancement Award
Awarded to a staff member who consistently betters Georgia Tech’s research program but is not a traditional researcher.
Only one nomination per individual per year. There is no limit to the number of nominations from any individual unit, but all nominations will be vetted for endorsement by the by the appropriate dean, IRI director or other executive.
Outstanding Achievement in Research Innovation Award
Awards faculty whose research results have had a demonstrable and sustained societal impact.

Outstanding Doctoral Thesis Advisor Award
Awarded in recognition of the achievements of a faculty member's doctoral students who completed all degree requirements from January 1, 2014, to December 31, 2018.
Only one nomination per individual per year. There is no limit to the number of nominations from any individual unit, but all nominations will be vetted for endorsement by the by the appropriate dean, IRI director or other executive.
Outstanding Faculty Research Author Award
Awarded to faculty who most contributed to highly impactful publications describing the results of research conducted at Georgia Tech and published during the period January 1, 2014, to December 31, 2018.
Only one nomination per individual per year. There is no limit to the number of nominations from any individual unit, but all nominations will be vetted for endorsement by the by the appropriate dean, IRI director or other executive.
Outstanding Achievement in Research Program Development Award
Awarded to a research team, preferably composed of both faculty and staff, that creates a new thought leadership platform to significantly expanding Georgia Tech’s research portfolio.
Only one nomination per individual per year. There is no limit to the number of nominations from any individual unit, but all nominations will be vetted for endorsement by the by the appropriate dean, IRI director or other executive.
Outstanding Achievement in Early Career Research
Awarded to a faculty member within eight years of his or her initial appointment who has made significant discoveries or advancements in his or her research, visibly impacting society or one or more scholarly communities.
Only one nomination per individual per year. There is no limit to the number of nominations from any individual unit, but all nominations will be vetted for endorsement by the by the appropriate dean, IRI director or other executive.
Recognizes teaching excellence, educational innovation, impact on student lives, and research / teaching connections. Nominees should be full-time tenure-track faculty who haven't received tenure.
Packet (no more than 15 pages) to include: letter of nomination, reflective statement, illustrations of teaching experience and impact on student learning, and letters of support.
Undergraduate Educator Award
Recognizes outstanding contributions to undergraduate education. Non-tenure track faculty with 75-100% appointment, teaches undergraduate courses, and has completed at least two semesters.
Packet (no more than 15 pages) to include: letter of nomination, table of contents, reflective statement, illustrations of teaching experience and impact on student learning, and letters of support.
Curriculum Innovation Award
Recognizes faculty who are improving the quality of education at Georgia Tech through pedagogical and curricular innovation.
Packet (no more than 15 pages) to include: table of contents, various descriptions of the innovation, and multiple letters of support.
Innovation and Excellence in Laboratory Instruction Award
Awards those faculty members who have excelled in teaching in the laboratory.
Packet (no more than 15 pages) to include: table of contents, various descriptions of the laboratory innovation, and multiple letters of support.
Innovation in Co-Curricular Education Award
Recognizes those faculty members who increase student learning outside the traditional curriculum and help Georgia Tech achieve its strategic goal of graduating global citizens who can contribute to all sectors of society.
Packet (no more than 15 pages) to include: table of contents, various descriptions of the co-curricular initiative, and multiple letters of support.
Education Partnership Award
Recognizes genuine and substantial partnerships between the faculty and students of Georgia Tech and the K-12 community. Partnership must be made between full-time faculty member, Tech student, and K-12 educator.
Packet to include: cover sheet, statement of partnership, constituent statements, and letters of support.
Faculty Award for Academic Outreach
Awarded to those who use their academic expertise to further the learning of K-12 students, teachers or other educational stakeholders of Georgia.
Packet (no more than 12 pages) to include: letter of nomination, table of contents, description of outreach activities, and multiple letters of support.
Geoffrey G. Eichholz Faculty Teaching Award
Recognizes faculty who provide outstanding teaching to students in core courses.
Packet (no more than 15 pages) to include: letter of nomination, reflective statement, illustrations of teaching experience and impact on student learning, and letters of support.
Teaching Excellence Award for Online Teaching - *NEW AWARD*
Recognizes full-time faculty of any rank for a strong commitment to engaged, online teaching and student success. The winner will be our nominee for the Regents' award in the upcoming year.
Packet (no more than 20 pages) to include: letter of nomination, table of contents, reflective statement, brief summary of innovative teaching artifacts, condensed curriculum vitae, evidence of the nominee's online teaching and leadership, and multiple letters of support.
Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Award - *NEW AWARD*
This award is intended to encourage and support the work of faculty whose scholarship focuses on the instructional mission of the institution. The winner will be our nominee for the Regents' award in the upcoming year.
Packet (no more than 20 pages) to include: letter of nomination, table of contents, teaching philosophy narrative, evidence of the impact of teaching, condensed curriculum vitae, and multiple letters of support.
SLS Award for Excellence in Community-Engaged Sustainability Teaching
This award recognizes a faculty member who has provided outstanding classroom experiences and related community engagement opportunities to students in one or more SLS Affiliated Courses taught between Fall 2017 to present.
Packet to include: letter of nomination (from self or other Tech colleague), description of SLS course/s taught including how they advance the SLS mission, vision, and Sustainable Communities framework and achieve SLS Student Learning Outcomes, and letters of support from a department chair or colleague, a student, and a community or other off-campus partner.
Recognizes a faculty member who has demonstrated sustained outstanding achievement and commitment to the advancement of the Institute’s global engagement.
Documentation to include description of nominee's past and present international involvement.
Recognizes faculty who have had sustained outstanding achievement in mentoring undergraduates in research activities. Given to one junior and one senior member of the faculty.
Packet (no more than 20 pages) to include: letter of nomination, condensed curriculum vitae, evidence of teaching effectiveness, and letters of recommendation that must include past and present students.
Outstanding Professional Education Award
Recognizes a faculty member or researcher for his/her contribution to the field of professional education at Georgia Tech.

Class of 1934 Outstanding Service Award
Presented to a faculty member who has benefited the Institute, profession, school/department, or the general public in an exemplary manner.

Class of 1934 Outstanding Innovative Use of Education Technology Award
Recognizes a member of the faculty who has developed and instituted innovative techniques to improve the learning environment and the learning process.

Class of 1934 Outstanding Interdisciplinary Activities Award
Recognizes faculty who have made significant interdisciplinary contributions to teaching and research.

Class of 1940 W. Roane Beard Outstanding Teacher Award
Awarded to those who display teaching excellence, including extraordinary efforts in teaching, inspiration transmitted to students, direct impact and involvement with students, intellectual integrity and scholarship, and impact on post graduate success of students.

Class of 1940 W. Howard Ector Outstanding Teacher Award
Awarded to those who display teaching excellence, including extraordinary efforts in teaching, inspiration transmitted to students, direct impact and involvement with students, intellectual integrity and scholarship, and impact on post graduate success of students.

Class of 1934 Distinguished Professor Award
Recognizes sustained outstanding achievement in teaching, research and service. Highest award given to a faculty member.
Packet (no more than 20 pages) to include: letter of nomination from the Chair, letters of recommendation from peers, documentation of scholarship, and letters regarding impact to students.
Recognizes staff who inspire others with their presence and professionalism, creating an environment where others flourish and thrive. Nominees embody what it means to be a Georgia Tech employee, continually striving toward progress and service.
Ideal nomination will describe how the individual has exhibited the specific behavior and how his/her efforts and approaches impacted others and the community. Nominators are encouraged to include three letters of support.
Process Improvement Excellence Award
Celebrates staff who consistently invent or improve tools, processes, or systems. Nominees should consistently ask "how can we do this better?" and "why do we do it that way?"
Ideal nomination will describe how the individual has exhibited the specific behavior and how his/her efforts and approaches impacted others and brought the eyes of the world to Georgia Tech. Nominators are encouraged to include three letters of support.
Rising Wreck Award
Celebrates staff who demonstrate leadership qualities that align with the Institute's Creating the Next Visionary Leader vision. Nominees should take initiative to solve problems and improve work situations without being promoted.
Ideal nomination will describe how the individual has exhibited the specific behavior and how his/her efforts and approaches impacted others and brought the eyes of the world to Georgia Tech. Nominators are encouraged to include three letters of support.
Excellence Award
Celebrates staff who are involved with transformative, larger-scale efforts. Nominees should achieve results that impact a large constituency of Georgia Tech employees.
Ideal nomination will describe how the individual has exhibited the specific behavior and how his/her efforts and approaches impacted others and brought the eyes of the world to Georgia Tech. Nominators are encouraged to include three letters of support.
Partnership Award
Celebrates staff who cultivate mutually beneficial partnerships at the international, national, or local levels. Nominees seek new partnerships while leveraging existing ones.

Leadership in Action Award
Celebrates staff who effectively motivate, influence, and develop both groups and individuals to achieve Institute goals. Nominees inspire change and productivity in others.

Service to the Community Award
Presented to staff who engage in activities that help others within the Georgia Tech community or outside of the Institute. Nominees will demonstrate a positive impact on others.
Ideal nomination will describe how the individual is a great manager on many levels, as well as how his/her efforts and approaches impacted others and brought the eyes of the world to Georgia Tech. Nominators are encouraged to include three letters of support.
Creating the Next Award
Recognizes an individual or team who regularly evaluates situations, gathers data, and uses the data, to identify opportunities for change. Nominees embrace change as an opportunity for growth and innovation.
