Certainly! Parents and family members are invited to attend this important ceremony.
Since this event marks the first Institute-level ceremony new students and their families will participate in, appropriate dress is encouraged. For women, we recommend skirts, dresses, or nice shorts; for men, nice pants, shorts, and accompanying shirts are appropriate. We do not encourage guests to wear t-shirts, sneakers, or workout attire.
Tickets are not required to attend the New Student Convocation ceremony; however, tickets are required for the Parents Reception that occurs before the Convocation ceremony. For details about this reception, please visit the Parents Program website.
Doors will open at 4:00 p.m. for guest seating.
Students will be seated with their classmates. Unfortunately, we are not able to sit parents and guests with their student at this event.
We anticipate New Student Convocation to conclude at 6:00 p.m.
Guests attending New Student Convocation are encouraged to park in the E81 lot (Georgia Tech Hotel and Conference Center) and utilize the complimentary trolleys provided to travel to McCamish Pavilion. Limited parking will be available in lot ER66 (Graduate and Family Housing). Only handicap guests with a handicap permit will be permitted to park in the E65 lot behind McCamish Pavilion. Click here for a campus parking map.
All new students will receive their RAT cap at New Student Convocation.
Immediately following the ceremony, students will attend a special welcome party sponsored by Auxiliary Services - Rock, Ramble, and Roll - which celebrates their first night as a Georgia Tech college student. Held in the Student Center, students may take a shuttle or walk over after the Convocation ceremony. This is a free event for new students.
Families who attend New Student Convocation who would like to say goodbye to their student after the event can do so in the Alexander Memorial Courtyard, accessible via the West Entrance doors in McCamish Pavilion.
Students will be directed to their next event, Rock, Ramble, and Roll, at the Student Center immediately following the ceremony. If you would like to see your student after the event, we encourage you to communicate with them in advance to determine a meet up spot. Our office suggests meeting by the Main or West Entrance outside the building due to heavy congestion in the concourse.
A limited number of programs are available after the ceremony. Please contact Special Events & Protocol at firstname.lastname@example.org or 404.894.7613 to request additional copies.
A list of hotels offering special rates to families and guests of students is located on the FASET Orientation website.
